For a start…

Horses and jockeys, off course. But there would be no races without starters. They assist the jockeys in loading the horses into the boxes and they help calming some nervous horses. Here are e few images from yesterdays races, and some of the starters at Bro Park. It is always such an inspiration to go there.

First, the races.

The way I do it

If I shoot 24×36, 6×6, 4×5″ or any other format, 9 times out of 10 I compose and fill the full frame. Just a way I started many years ago and just a way I still work.

From yesterdays races at Bro Park. Enjoy!

Start me up!

Yesterday was the final race before my exhibition at Jägersro in Malmö upcoming Sunday the 16th. I concentrated on the start. The starters are cool people. Not all horses like to go into the boxes, so some need help to get in. Horses are strong and you better watch out for kicks. One of the first thing I was told when I started photographing horse races was that there is no start car. On the dirt track, or grass, the horses are accelerating so much quicker. The starters has to be quick too. When all the horses are in the boxes they just want to get out of there and race.

Now my biggest problem for the exhibition is to make my final selection of images from all the thousands that I have. There will be just 10-12 to be exhibited.

Lady Jockeys’ Thoroughbred World Championship

The first Lady Jockeys’ Thoroughbred World Championship was held at Bro Park yesterday evening, on the 4th of July. Exciting! We had a french winner, Maryline Eon. One more competition before making choices and printing for The Derby at Jägersro.

Here is my selection of images from the event. It happened to be many telling eyes.

Same same, but always different

I see mostly the same jockeys and the same horses, but it is never ever the same. The weather changes, and my angles. And everything else. Some of my images are not about racing but still lifes/details from the horses or jockeys. It is a colorful and very exciting sport! The owners and trainers often pimp their racing darlings. Now I am looking forward to a dirty dirttrack, AND a couple of exhibitions with my images. Exciting!   From yesterdays races at Bro Park.      😊🏇😊  Pelle

There are many dogs visiting the races…

No Promises!

When I go to a horse race to photograph I make no promises. Not to me or anyone else. No promises that my images should be sharp, show what horse or jockey, or anything. I go there with total freedom for creating and I don´t  listen to nobody. Surprise me! That is all that I say to myself. Because of that I don´t really know until afterwards in the studio what I brought back. Is it useful and did I surprise myself. Do I like it? At the bottom I have included two of my friends and colleagues. Wolfram and Elina.See you on Sunday again.

Only two images are cropped…

This is a small selection from yesterdays 979 exposures. The one at the top is my favorite.
