The World from Above

I am not much of a drone man myself, but well handeled you can make wunderful images with them. Like these.

The winners of this year’s aerial photography competition run by online site Dronestagram have been announced.

The winning pictures taken using drone cameras were selected from thousands of entries by the judges, including National Geographic Deputy Director Patrick Witty and Emanuela Ascoli, photo editor of National Geographic, France.

Todd Kennedy was on his honeymoon when he took this drone shot of Cable Beach, Western Australia. He said: “When we arrived in Broome, we booked a sunset camel tour which was a beautiful experience and a great opportunity to get a new addition to a series of shadow images I have been collecting since entering into drone photography.”

-and I will be exhibiting.

Welcome to Jägersro the 16th of July. Jägersro is the race track for horse racing in Malmö. I am especially happy for this since my interest for the sport started just here one year ago.  I have made a selection from my horse racing images and they will be exhibited on prints in size 70×100 cm..

A warm welcome to you all!

Grand opening at Bro Park

Last Sunday was the long awaited grand opening of Bro Park. The new race horse track in the Stockholm area. The weather was fine and so the spectators. Many dressed up for the occasion and the competition for the best dress, and hat of course. All as it should be on a day like this in this sport. After going through about 32 GB of images I have come up with this small selection. As always I am walking around in my own little world of details, color and speed. Just as the jockeys I am now looking forward to learning the new track. Different corners and where and when the light is best here, and there.

Note: The happiest winner was an American, Chantal, with her arms up in the sky. The Swedes just won without visual signs. But with a smile afterwards, of course.

😀🏇🏽😀

6th of June Horse Race

Yesterday was national holiday in Sweden and the annual horse race at Gärdet. A huge recreation field here in Stockholm. The track that is rebuilt every year at this place is not flat as most other tracks. I think that the jockeys like it. The weather was sunny and there was a huge audience that were allowed in for free. Here is my selection from my 1148 exposures.

It is final

It came and it went. Like all other days. The final day at Täby Galopp in Stockholm. Sun, clouds and artificial lights gave different looks to the races, and the images. Together with two colleagues I produced an exhibition for the event. It was well received and I am very happy for that. It gave me a possibility to talk to the viewers. Some did not see the point in unfocused, blurred images at all. So I told them that I do. To me it is not that important to recognize jockeys, horses or owners. I am looking for speed, power and color. So also yesterday. Here is the result. A few more images to add to the series from Täby. Next race is another track, different light and angles. Exciting and a new challenge.

I accept that challenge!

Come rain, come shine

I am in the need of a sauna just coming back from a cold day at the race track! So how do the jockeys feel when they are coming in from a long day on the horse back? Many horse backs that is, since they ride so many different horses during a race day. The weather was testing us, how much we could stand.

Not many races left at the old track now. The 18th next month is the final day. As always there is a new page to be turned and to experience. That will be interesting. Here is the selection of images frpm today. Enjoy! 😀

By the way, are there saunas for horses!

Saddle up!

And they did! We were all happy to be back on track today again. And everybody enjoyed the good weather. Not only horses and jockeys but photographers and audience too. Horse racing might be an all year sport but bläh! for long underwear, gloves and heavy shoes. Colors are also back in the sport. I enjoyed this very much, I hope you do too.

Long time, no horse race

It´s been some time since I visited a horse race. However, yesterday I went back to Täby Galopp. The track is old and it will soon be closed down and replaced by a new one. At Bro. A place also just outside Stockholm, but in another direction from Täby. It will be interesting to see how the races will develop there. Täby is like Venedig. Beautiful in its decline. Lots of patina that attract us photographers.

A rest for eyes and mind was healthy. Time to refocus and find new details and ways to capture my images. But of course I recognize all the events. I get good exercise since I am not always standing at the goal waiting for a winner. That is what many of my friends and colleagues have to do. It is their job to catch the winner. And after that the winning horse, jockey and owner.  Instead I can concentrate on investigating other parts of the race with all preparations and other post race activities.

Here is a selection from yesterday, enjoy! 😊  Pelle

Inside the Padmini taxis of Mumbai

This is a great series of photographs from inside taxis. I just found them on BBC and I love the idea. Go have a look, and look out for the book. Interesting view of another country and culture.

http://www.bbc.com/news/in-pictures-35531364

London-based Glaswegian photographer Dougie Wallace spent four years documenting the black-and-yellow Premier Padmini taxis that have been a feature of Mumbai, India’s financial capital, since the 1960s.

“Human behaviour motivates my pictures. People, their interactions and emotions fascinate me,” says Wallace.

A book of the work, Road Wallah by Dougie Wallace, is published by Dewi Lewis.

Waiting for the sun

I miss the sun and the warmth of the rays. It is OK with some winter, but this is too long. We are just at the very beginning of February and there are more winter to come. So I dream myself away to a vacation in Egypt, a resort. Not the pyramids. That would have been exciting. I´d like to share these images with you from warmer days in a warmer country. Of course it is not the ordinary vacation pictures. I have some of those too, but I hardly never look at them. They are just spending time in the dark on my hard drive. I just don´t know what to do with them.
