Fan Who?

I just read that the photographer Fan Ho has passed away at the age of 85. I did nยดt know about him but I like to share what I just learned with you. His work is fantastic! It is not difficult to understand that he was called the Bresson of the East. I first learned about him in an article in http://www.dpreview.com. The top link. The second link is to his homepage. Really colorful w/w images. It really shows that good photography has no age. It is timeless.

Please excuse my little joke in the headline, but I had never heard of him before.

Grand opening at Bro Park

Last Sunday was the long awaited grand opening of Bro Park. The new race horse track in the Stockholm area. The weather was fine and so the spectators. Many dressed up for the occasion and the competition for the best dress, and hat of course. All as it should be on a day like this in this sport. After going through about 32 GB of images I have come up with this small selection. As always I am walking around in my own little world of details, color and speed. Just as the jockeys I am now looking forward to learning the new track. Different corners and where and when the light is best here, and there.

Note: The happiest winner was an American, Chantal, with her arms up in the sky. The Swedes just won without visual signs. But with a smile afterwards, of course.

6th of June Horse Race

Yesterday was national holiday in Sweden and the annual horse race at Gรคrdet. A huge recreation field here in Stockholm. The track that is rebuilt every year at this place is not flat as most other tracks. I think that the jockeys like it. The weather was sunny and there was a huge audience that were allowed in for free. Here is my selection from my 1148 exposures.

Saddle up!

And they did! We were all happy to be back on track today again. And everybody enjoyed the good weather. Not only horses and jockeys but photographers and audience too. Horse racing might be an all year sport but blรคh! for long underwear, gloves and heavy shoes. Colors are also back in the sport. I enjoyed this very much, I hope you do too.

Nonsens?

Compared to the wonderful and important images I wrote about yesterday by Nick Brandt, these are just nonsense. But, they had to be made, I think. They are from Diani Beach, Mombasa and from last week. I am not so much for sunbathing so I rather keep to the shadows. Going on my own short walks exploring the surroundings. Looking up, but mostly down ๐Ÿ˜‰

Sad and/but beautiful

After just returning home from 10 days in Kenya, these images are very sad to see. But they are also very beautiful. But of course it would be more beautiful if the animals could be seen in these places live. See and read more on BBC.

Nick Brandt built lifesized panels depicting Africaโ€™s great creatures and placed them in scenes where they used to roam. The resulting photographs serve as a potent reminder of what poaching and climate change put at stake. ยฉ Nick Brandt.

Inside the Padmini taxis of Mumbai

This is a great series of photographs from inside taxis. I just found them on BBC and I love the idea. Go have a look, and look out for the book. Interesting view of another country and culture.

London-based Glaswegian photographer Dougie Wallace spent four years documenting the black-and-yellow Premier Padmini taxis that have been a feature of Mumbai, India’s financial capital, since the 1960s.

“Human behaviour motivates my pictures. People, their interactions and emotions fascinate me,” says Wallace.

A book of the work, Road Wallah by Dougie Wallace, is published by Dewi Lewis.

Waiting for the sun

I miss the sun and the warmth of the rays. It is OK with some winter, but this is too long. We are just at the very beginning of February and there are more winter to come. So I dream myself away to a vacation in Egypt, a resort. Not the pyramids. That would have been exciting. Iยดd like to share these images with you from warmer days in a warmer country. Of course it is not the ordinary vacation pictures. I have some of those too, but I hardly never look at them. They are just spending time in the dark on my hard drive. I just donยดt know what to do with them.

I wish

This new year, 2016, what are we going to do with it? Are you among those who makes promises? Are you good at it? I donยดt do promises for a new year any more. If I decide to do something I do it as quick as possible.ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย  ( That doesnยดt always mean immediately. ๐Ÿ˜‰ ) No need to wait for a special year. That might just take too long to get it done. A man has got to do what a man has got to do… So, what do I wish for the new year? Same as you I guess. Without trying to win a Mr. World competition, peace on earth. Wouldnยดt that be nice? Donยดt ask what the world can do for you. Ask what you can do to/for the world. I think that if we all do the small things to us and our friends, and the people we meet, that will make a big difference. Small and big goes well together here.

OK, promise!?

A good day for me starts on my short walk to my studio. ( Breakfast reading todayยดs news is also fine ). If I meet a friend to say hello to, or If I can smile to a parent whose child is jumping in a puddle. That is a good omen for the new day.

Of course I will challenge myself with some now projects and images again this year. Can I arrange an exhibition with a selection from my horse racing images, or my working gloves? That would be great. And I am open to surprises. Things that I didnยดt expect. This year will include an extra day at the end of February. Be sure to use it well!

The first blog of the year will include some images from the archipelago. And some new horse racing images from last Sunday. It is suddenly a white winter up here in the north.

In vacation mood

I went to Copenhagen for a few days and put my eyes in vacation mood. My eyes went up and down, and all around. That is usually how I do to see the surroundings. Mostly I looked down. Mostly, but not always. On the ground were large plates of thick iron for us pedestrians to walk on over ground work here and there. They all had, I guess, the owners initials. Very graphic. I like to do series. When my eyes find one, of whatever, they always find more of the same.
